Go to the sticky at the top of the page that says tech/mod links. There's a link there that might help out (sorry never offered any advice so I don't know how to link stuff)

Then I guess we can stop reading!! Sure, you can convert to 4by4 but its a lot of work. It can be done though. Just buy a 4by4 is my advise.

I, too, would advise that you buy one that's already a 4x4 if that's what you want. I'm twenty, by the way, and I can read just fine without everything being in all capital letters.

Glenn, I've noticed that the membership on this site branches across all age brackets nicely.

ff1210, the caps lock is not that big of a deal, it just gets annoying to read all caps. When you're trying to get people to help you out, it never hurts to make it as easy as possible for them to help you.

Back on topic, I don't think anybody's going to advise you to get a 2WD with plans of making it a 4x4. Parts alone are going to run you over $2000, so I would just add the money I would have spent on the 4x4 conversion into just buying a 4x4 to begin with if I were you. Why would you want to deliberately make things harder for yourself?

Im glad every one has tolt me to just buy a 4wd i never thought of that sorry if sound like a A<>. You all would rather talk about what you would do not what the poster is asking. So with that said some one told me that the change over is easy to do. All the parts post to bolt on with no prob. I have no reason to own a 4wd at the moment but if i bought the truck i would want to keep it and i think it would be a challenge to lift a 2wd about 6'' and turn it in to a 4wd at the same time. Thats just my thoughts.

Look there and see for yourself if it's worth the trouble.

Picked up my 96 350 4x4 for $5500, it took me a while to find it, but I couldn't complete the Mod for a 2wd on anything in my area for even close to that price. Sorry I have no exp with the swap personally.

As you can see in Joesph's link, in the first couple of sentences he mentions doner truck. Hey, we all love working on our trucks or we probably wouldn't be here. If you love the challenge then go for it. You'll need the room for a donor truck and to move all the parts around. If you live in the country, great. If you live in town you **** off all the neighbors and might even be turned in for code violations, been there. The list goes on and on but I love a challenge too. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that, most likely, someone told you it was easy and they were trying to impress you with there skills. It might be your best friend so I'll shut up now! LOL

I'm with those that say wait for a 4x4. With rising fuel costs, more will be willing to sell. Keep an eye out
