I'm I missing something (with Pics)

I was replacing my fuel filter this afternoon on my wifes '06 Expy. This was the first time I was under it since getting it late last summer. So when I was done with the filter I was looking around underneath just to get the lay of the land. I saw something that didn't look right. It look like I am missing a plug or something. I took a couple of pics of it and put red circles around the area that I am questioning. I looked up the whole and could see something that looks like a gear. So please let me know if I am missing something and what the gear thing is. Thanks for your time.

on my 2002 nav there is a rubber plug there that allows you to turn the torque converter to its drain plug allowing you drain the torque converter on fluid changes

Its not a deal if this piece is missing, all of these transmissions have them even if yours does not have the actual drain plug in the TC.

It is supposed to have a plastic plug there. All of the 4R70 trans have it and I believe the 4R100s do too. I suggest picking up a plug from the dealer or almost any transmission shop should have a few laying around from some old cores. It is also to keep dirt and debris out of that area. There should also be a plug in the hole of the block opposite of the starter for the same reason

Not a big deal, as stated above just pick up a plug. A quick trip to a salvage yard, dealer, trans shop and you'll be set but don't lose any sleep over it!

I would suggest making it a small deal though, as road salt and other debris like sand and dirt will get in there and attack the seals. Once the seals start leaking it becomes a BIG deal.

Will probably stop by the dealership on the way home from work tomorrow to pick up the plug. When I get the plug should it do anything before replacing the plug. Should I spray some lube or oil up there? Let me know what i should do before sealing it up.

Just push it into the hole until it clicks/seats and all is good.
