Welcome to FTE and the IDI forum.
The most common issues with the IDI engine are hard starts due to dead glow plugs or leaking fuel return lines...so we get a lot of questions about glow plugs.
Yes, you'll find that linked thread to have all the info you need. But usually some will think they have one problem, but once we start tossing ideas back and forth in a thread...some things that were thought to be un-related can actually play a good deal in the original issue. (This is why I actually like the B.S.'ing we do, it can sometimes uncover something we would have never known without B.S.'ing)
This can make searching a nightmare, due to poor thread titles and the fact that the original issue over here at Point A may actually be caused by issue at Point D...when the original poster may have thought it was caused by the issue at Point B.
Newbies can confuse a glow plug issue for what really ends up being a fuel system losing prime due to leaky return lines. But it takes quite a bit of questions to understand the sitation and try to diagnose an issue by typing over a computer screen.
Some folks may not like it, but it's usually best to start with a long post and try to include as many details as possible...it helps us help you

If the GP's aren't staying on long enough, then you likely have some bad GP's. Trying to make them burn a little longer will usually just result in burning them up.
How long do they stay on?
Like blueovalbud says, more details are needed to fully diagnose the issue you are having. Sounds like you are having cold start trouble. Give details, and I bet these guys can tell you where to start looking.
