He told me the auto parts guy said autolite and motorcraft are the same

and they were $1 cheaper (even better). And the awesome part is they started the truck maybe 12 times. He got some beru's on order.

The problem arises when the truck's owners walk into any auto parts store and ask for Glow Plugs for his truck. If there were 2 choices most would select the cheapest.......

Or if you're willing to be risky like me, you go with Autolite 1109 dual-coil plugs.
They've got close to 30k miles on them, 2 years old, and I've gone thru 2 used starters (just so ya know the GP's fire a lot) and they still fire like a champ on the stock 83-86 GP controller. Apparently they're made for a GM 6.5 or 6.2 in a Hummer or something...I decided to try it because Marianna (member here) laid out a good post in a GP thread a couple years ago explaining the dual-coil plugs.

Looks like a got lucky there 84!!!

I'm convinced on these plugs, but I'm not going to push them or shove them down anyone's throat. I know the consequences and run them accordingly.

I got that very same thing from a guy at my local NAPA this week. He even argued with me when I told him he was incorrect. Oh well.

I've done a lot of research this week into glow plugs and finally came to the conclusion that the reason so many people with manual switches have such problems (glow plugs swelling, burning out, breaking off in the cylinder, etc) is due to Ford's use of 6-volt glow plugs to get a faster start.

So I looked for some 12-volt glow plugs. The AC Delco 60G's fit the 6.9 just fine, and they're meant for 12 volts. So I'll be putting them on on Saturday.

Say what you will about how good Motorcraft/Beru plugs are, but I just got my truck a few weeks ago with a new set of ZD1As or ZD9's (not sure yet since I haven't pulled them) and they're already burned out. I'm willing to put up with longer glow times in exchange for plugs that don't burn out or swell up.

I'll report back in a few weeks and either tell you guys "you were right" or "you should look at AC Delcos"...

With 12v you would need a much longer glow time. Not positive how long though. Oh and another thing i never did figure out how to do those fancy quote thingys?
