94 Explorer New Clutch now has rough Idle
Hi all,
I just changed my clutch and now my truck has rough idle.
During clutch job (smooth idle):
1. I didn't disconnect any vacuum lines.
2. Disconnected the driveshaft, exhaust, starter and transmission.
-note: had to raise the engine a bit to remove the exhaust to get room
to remove bellhousing screws.
3. Replaced the clutch disc, u-joint, exhaust gasket and the slave cylinder.
4. Reconnected the driveshaft, exhaust and transmission.
After, the clutch job (rough idle):
1. Replaced spark plugs, wires, coilpack, air filter, oil filter, oil.
2. Cleaned MAF sensor and added coolant.
3. Inspected vacuum lines.
Still rough idle:
I read some codes on the OBD-I which was telling me that the EGR voltage was higher or lower than expected. When I was tightening the bolts on the pressure plate for the clutch and it rotated. I'm wondering if this created a problem. Also, the EGR is only 1 yr old... replaced all the emission parts to pass smog last year.
Anyone got any ideas? Your help is most greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

I would tend to doubt that anything you did with the clutch has anything to do with the rough idle, however i don't know much about manual transmissions or transmissions in general. But i will ask if you checked the IAC (idle air control)? What happens when you drive it, like say from a stop? Does it stutter/shudder and then smooth out?

yep...
and I was talking w/ someone else who told me to disconnect the IAC and see what it did and it bounced around the 500 RPM mark with some sputtering. I have to go to work now but I would like to discuss, I'm on the West Coast (California) so hopefully you'll be around when I get back (prob around 7PM). Thanks for the comment!
