I ran a Mallory Unilite for a while and went thru at LEAST 4 modules in the span of 3 or 4 years.
Wasn't worth it IMHO, swapped in Duraspark and never looked back.
Basically it (Unilite) ran fine most of the time, but you would go to start the engine and crank crank crank... I have had my truck since 1993 and the Unilite is the only thing that ever stranded me... at least I was in a Village Inn parking lot at the time, couldn't imagine in the middle of nowhere. The other few times it took a crap I was at home, so it was easy to throw in the points dizzy to at least get where I needed to go.
Mallory claims there are extremely sensitive to voltage spikes and what-not, but whatever I say they are junk.
Thanks man that what I wanted to hear I was thinkn the same thing I've never had a problem out of msd but I thought I was gettn a deal so I guess ill put the factory dist in n run her some more
While aftermarket parts are cool and sometimes an upgrade, for reliability, most of the time you cant beat stock. Most people dont realize that a LOT of the aftermarket stuff is built for racing applications, not durability. In race applications things are usually double and triple checked, repaired or replaced before each race, wheteher it be an 1/8 mile run down the strip or a 500 mile NASCAR race ....................Im not saying that the majority of the aftermarket stuff is junk or not worth putting on a vehicle. Just that it may have been intended for a different application where day to day, stick it in and leave it alone reliability isnt as big of an issue.
yea i agree w some of what u said but ive run msd on alot of my trucks ive had it on 2 mud bog trucks and a street race trk etc.n never had a problem n like i said this is my first mallory n definently my last n i need the high performance ign for this truck so for now i guess its gonna get a duraspark till i can get a msd
