Yes, Im new

Im wondering if someone can clear up my issue? I have a new project starting with a ford 302 connecting it to a np435 and then to a dana 300. the motor came out of a 80s f150 with no bell housing. the tranny came from a late 70s f150 with a bellhousing. The bell housing doesnt fit the motor. I dont know what motor the tranny was hooked to, could it have been a big block?, the bell just seems two big, but does have the same bolt pattern just bigger. can someone help a first timer?????

In the 70's there was a lot of different motors used but my guess is you don't have the right bell housing. Most 70's either had FE usually a 360 or M series such as 351M, 400, 460.

Probably one of the top ten reasons people throw up their hands and just go build a Chevy is Ford's idiotic practice of making a different bell pattern for every engine series.

Here's a list, no guarantee it's 100% correct.

List of Ford bellhousing patterns - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

But, since you are dealing with a 302, you need the bell off a truck 302 so you will have the correct block to bell pattern, and correct depth.

The 351w uses the same pattern, as does the 240/300 six. NOT SURE you can use the six bell. The 351w bell should work. (starter location would be the deal killer)

But your late '70s bell would be of value to some other person in need of one for whatever it came off of.

thank you!! so a differnt bell houseing is needed and shouldnt be hard to find. I talk to the guy that sold me the tranny, he thought a 351 was hooked to it??? the numbers on the bell are half worn off so who knows. thanks again

AA can be helpful, but he doesn't need an adaptor, he can get a stock Ford bell.
