The 48-50 Vin post started with just info Carl and I had stored between us. Same thing you're talking about. Go for it - just post it here. Morris is the best moderator we have!!

Looks like you and Wayne could provide a valuable service to all the CAN truck people out there. Thanks guys.
Good morning I'm sorry, I actually meant the 48-60 main page which is the main page to me. I am really new to this computer lingo, don't really understand it and haven't got a good memory. Sometimes can't see so well, have a caderac in one eye and a riinkon in the other. I get a lot of the computer lingo mixed up.
I think with 52Merc's and others help we will get this vin thing figured out. Your experience with earlier vins may also be a great benefit also. Will discuss this thing over on the main site (48-60)
Bye for now.

Thanks everyone for your info, I will check the other chassis this week, I just found it odd that one of the cross members is in different locations yet both chassis' are 53-56. wondering if the 53-55 is different from the 56???

Thanks again

Hi again About 12 yrs. ago I compaired a 53 to a 56 frame but cannot remember the differences. I don't remember any cross members being in different locations. I still have some frames laying around but it would take awhile to figure out which ones are which. Can you post pics of what you have and the differences or are you like me and need help with such things?
Bye for now.

Might be a little tough to send pics of both frames as I have now made one out of 2. The back half of the clipped frame was pretty beat up and reverse for the stock frame, so I cut the 2 in half and made one.

I will see what I can send

Cheers

Hi again (I kinda like this little guy) I have to admit that I'm getting a little confused. Just a shot in the dark but is it possible that some one used a frame from a pu that had an 8 ft. box? If I remember right the only difference between 53-55 and 56 frames are the running board brackets. I think the 53-55 brackets dip down and back up again to allow for the gas tank and the 56 brackets are flat. There could also be a difference in the shock brackets also.
I hope we are getting some where with this. There's been a lot of and not really solving your concerns.
Bye for now.

If you wish to decode a 1946/65 Canadian VIN, go here: mercurypickups.com / 1966/68 Canadian VIN's are the same as US assembled trucks, have 11 digits.

At some point, don't recall when, the Oakville assembly plant VIN code became a C. 1968 and later is a C because all the 1968/79 F100/350 Crew Cabs were assembled there as well as other trucks...most of which were sold in the USA.

Ford stamped the frame's ID number on the right (passenger) side front outer section of the frame rail.

1953/56 F/M100 will be similar to this: TAAA-5005-AA

The Oakville, Ontario Canada Passenger Car Assembly Plant has been operating since 1953. In 1956, it was combined with the Ontario Canada Truck Assembly plant located at the same location.

No trucks have been assembled there since 2004. Today, the Ford Edge/Flex Lincoln MKT/MKX are assembled there.

52 Merc: 83 = Flareside Pickup / 99 = 1957 and later Styleside Pickup.
