I am looking to remove T-stat before flushing. I noticed that there it a "U" shaped bracket on top of housing holding a sensor with a tube attached. Question: Can I remove nuts and pull sensor up and away from T-stat housing or remove tubing and re-connect after removing sensor bracket? I finally located Rotella Ultra ELC and want to thoroughly flush the cooling system. Thanks in advance for your help. MC "05" PSD
you have to take those nuts off to get to the studs that hold the thermistate housing
you may or maynot have a fuel line in the way to
not to bad took bought an hour for me to change last sunday
I think it took longer for me to find my tools I lust go slow double check everthing
and try not to break anything
Thanks for info on T-stat removal. Did not want to get into a situation of the (fixing one and breaking two) syndrome. Always good to ask people with experience. Thanks again. MC
I separate the cac tube at the intercooler boot to easy just a little more room
Make shure to run it at high idle I tried to hit 1100 rpm for 30 to 45 min
used 2 bottle vc-9 and pull the one drain plug on engine block after each flush then 3-4 flushes it was crystall clear
did it once with the thremistate in after about the 10 flush and having rusty water I gave up and did it again with the thermistate out
then when your done put a coolant filter on it cheap insurance
dealer wanted 1250.00 to change oil cooler
Blade: Less then two years ago my 6.0 was pulled by my dealer to re-seal the bedplate. And since the engine was out of the truck the tech went ahead and cleaned out the egr cooler, re-built the turbo and after re-installing the enine did a coolant flush. Needless to say, I tipped him a C note. Anyway, as I look inside the degas bottle, the coolant looks excellent; right color , clean and clear. Since I am using Rotella Ulta ELC, which is nitrate free among other harmful particulates, I am thinking that the use of VC-9 and coolant filter would be over-kill. Rotella Ultra concentrate runs $28 per gallon and advertises 600,000 mile protection and never needs an additive outside of checking mixture concentration periodically. My thoughts about changing coolant that is less than two years old with this new product would negate the use of a coolant filter. However, I yield to those of you with a lot more experience then I... I welcome your thoughts. Thanks again, MC.
VC-9 and Restore Plus both "prep" the metal in your system for the new coolant. A layer of coolant bonds to the passageways (supposedly) and without using an acidic cleaner, the metal won't be receptive to this bonding.
Coolant filters are more for casing sand and other particles than coolant related issues.
