Back in the day...under the leadership of the site founder...your post would have disappeared as he frowned upon people soliciting for free "pay for use" subscription information. I guess he was trying to maintain the integrity of the system.
In addition, there may have been some legal issues with it.
FYI: The seller should provide a CarFax if he wants to sell it bad enough.

Car Fax's arent worth the 35 bucks anyway. I did one on my mustang and it had absolutely no useful information. The car was registered in AZ for most of its life and there was absolutely no record of that at all listed on the report. Auto Check seems to be more detailed than Car Fax. I agree with kw5413, if the deal depends on the car checking out on car fax, let him pay for it. If he wont, that means theres probably somthing he's trying to hide from you.

I don't mean to **** anyone off, Justthought I would put it out there? I guess I am just a cheap SOB. Should I have asked as a donation. LOL I was just asking because you buy them 5 at a time and thought that someone might have one or two left.

It is actually still specifically prohibited in the guidelines. It's more an issue of the Carfax people getting all wound about not making money and going after sites that allow this sort of thing.
