Tore valve cover off tonight to properly install #8 injecter harness in rocker cover only to find the plastic plug is broken.
Harness will not stay on injector plug because fhe clip is only latching on one side. Slot on the injector plastic plug is broke off on one side.
This is the newest injector in the truck (04 truck, 8/03) improperly installed under warranty by a dealer in WI when under ownership of previous owner. This was found by my dealer when doing an ICP replace last year.
Hate to replace the newest injector in the truck because of a broken plastic plug.
Can the plastic plug on the injector be replaced?
Thought about trying to find an injector at a scrap yard and splice on a new plug on my good injector. could possible solder on new plug with injector still in truck, then heat shrink solder joints.
This is a daily driver, can't afford to be tore apart for a couple days.
Any thoughts?
Tested ficm tonight and good at 47.9 to 48.2 volts thru all phases of test.
You can't just buy the new injector harness but if you can find a used injector it's very easy to change from one injector to another. It's actually retains the spool valve.
Try pushing the injector harness through the rocker carrier and plugging in the harness before reinstalling the valve cover. Once it's pushed through (it's very tight) and the harness is connected it locks together and shouldn't be able to come apart. It might save you a lot of work and run for a long time until you get a chance to find a used injector harness (try partsguyed.com). I've had more than one with broken retainer clips that once connected ran just fine.
npccpartsman,
I did plug the harness in before putting the valve cover back on. The problem is the little bit of movement in the harness required to plug the FICM makes it come apart.
I even tried bending the clip a little tighter.
I have a slight miss at around 2000 rpm and I think that this bad plug may be the culprit.
Talked to a local diesel shop and they told me to silicone it with "Right Stuff" and let it sit overnight. If I go this route, I wont smear it up until after it is plugged in.
I agree, it is crazy. It is injector #8 and there is no room to really do anything.
