Hi all,
I just bought an 86 BII, and the heat/AC only blow on high speed. Does anyone know if the switch contains the resistors or if there is a separate resistor block elsewhere. I'd rather not replace the switch only to find out the problem is with something else. I've had 3 BII's in the past, but never had to look into this before.
They usually go when it gets surrounded with leaves, which can cause a smokey fire if they are dry enough. If you dig around in the box, after you remove the resistor, with a screwdriver and suck the stuff out with a wet dry vac. you can usually get enough air flow through it to be passable. The best thing is to remove everything and put screens across the cowl vents so it does not happen again.
Even in my 1971 F-100 this is a problem, except the leaves come out the floor vents instead
Some things about Ford trucks rarely change, noisy power steering pumps and leaves clogging your air/heater/ac system. At least on my 1995 Aerostar they put a plastic grate over the cowl vents.
