Electrical Issue - 02 Supercrew

All was well until this morning. Now, when I shut off the engine, the heating fan goes on to high and won't stop. Also appears that the gauges are powered in some manner. The needles go down rather than up.

My first thoughts are a bad ground somewhere or a relay gone bad but I have not looked yet.

Anyone been there and done that with one of these trucks?

02 F150 4X4 Supercrew Lariat with the 5.4 and about 143K miles on it.

A search on here suggests problems of this nature if the windshield leaks so, since I sort of need a windshield anyway, I am going to have that done first and see if it is ok once it is dry.

As a "bandaid" solution, I have installed a battery disconnect so that I do not have to use a wrench to remove the ground cable every time I leave the truck.

As an FYI, everytime you remove power to the PCM it reboots it and has to go all through testing the system again each time.
If you ever need emmission inspection, don't do this in the days before because the truck won't pass a check.
There will be an EVAP Pid because it takes quite some time for this test to complete over a number of drive cycles.
Good luck.

This is not true everywhere. In my part of Ohio, the state e-check system will test a vehicle even if its OBD-II reading is 'unready' because the owner has recently disconnected the battery. As long as the "check engine soon" light is not on, and the only OBD-II code is 'unready' the emissions station will test your vehicle dynamically. I know that because it happened to me in 2009.
