I had the update on my truck last week and virtually had no time for the transmission to "re-learn" before I had to tow with it. Less than 100 miles since the flash I had to take my camper in for trade due to the ordered one arriving. Twice during the tow(14K pounds) when descending down a grade, I had to touch the brakes in order for it to downshift. No problem on the downshift but the next upshift was excruciatingly harsh! I've been in vehicles that have damaged drive train components that have not shifted that hard. It was almost like the truck couldn't make a decision as to what gear it should be in. Both times I was around 45 mph during the first upshift after I had touched the brakes to hold back the load. Thank God I only had to tow about 30 miles each way on a two lane road. I sincerely hope this is not going to be a problem with this new flash and that my tranny 'learns" quickly!
Yes, I was using the Tow/Haul mode as I always do when towing that much weight. I am seriously wondering about this flash now. I've towed about 3500 miles without anything like this. Several times on the same road I was on when this happened due to taking the camper to the dealer and the lake. Just may start over!
Are you talking about a reflash from the dealer?
I'm disappointed in the way mine's shifting as well. Just got the truck and don't like it going from 1500rpm to 3000rpm to climb a hill. Sometimes it'd downshift going down rather harshly.
Hopefully unhooking the batteries and the "relearning" helps.
Let us know how it goes.
rumor has it the relearn is about 100 miles if you don't do the manual steps..
TCM Relearn Process
1.) From a stop, accelerate the vehicle to 55-60 mph at approximately 1/4 throttle. DO THIS TWICE.
2.) From a stop, accelerate the vehicle to 65-70 mph at approximately 1/2 throttle. DO THIS TWICE.
3.) From a stop, accelerate the vehicle to 70 mph at approximately 3/4 throttle. DO THIS TWICE.
4.) From a 40 mph roll, press the accelerator to the floorboard quickly (forcing the truck to downshift) and accelerate to around 75 mph.
5.) From a stop, accelerate to 75 mph at wide open throttle (press the accelerator to the floor immediately). DO THIS 2-3 TIMES.
yes, I am talking about the latest flash from the dealer. It was done early last week. Called my tech last night. He said no one else has said anything to him about the shifting problems. Said he would email Ford on Monday and see what they say.

the letter SAID that there would be a tranny relearn as part of the flash apply, and that means weird shifting would result for a while. TIL IT LEARNS!
100 miles is a long time for a tranny learn. Granted, hooking up to a trailer in the 1st few days may not have helped it but it seems hard to believe it would take 100 miles to learn how to shift.
The other thing is, exactly where can you do that learn routine without getting a ticket?
My local police aren't the friendliest of folks, especially me on the back country roads doing that stuff.
