replaced the clutch in my sons 86 ranger last weekend it acts like it is in neutral if you push in the clutch pedal there is a little chatter but does not do a thing seems to be engauging in all of the gears but if the pedal is let out nothing happens in reverse the backup lights won't come on either, we bled the clutch system any suggestions?
Well it sure sound's as though the clutch isn't releasing. Did you replace to through-out bearing? Are you sure it's the right one? Did you compare it to the original? Did you lube the through-out bearing guide? Is your set-up hydralic or mechanical?
yes i replaced the through out bearing it was a little different that the original but it was suppost to be a "improved replacement"
seemed to be the proper one as far as fit goes, lubed it as per the instructions, the truck has a hydrolic clutch one of those that the slave cylinder is inside the bell housing, looks like i'll be pulling it all back apart this weekend
it seemed to be the same hieght as the one that came out we bled the clutch system when we discovered the problem with it not disengauging , that did not help a bit , there is a very slight chatter noise when the peddle is pressed
This may sound very silly, and please don't get mad, but some new pressure plate's are boxed with wooden block's under the pressure plate finger's. Do you remember seeing these? If so did you remove them? I am getting baffled.
Found the problem the old through-out bearing was a two piece and the iron collar was still in the slave cylinder the new improved bearing had no collar and was about a half inch longer
thanks to those who tried to help on this had me totaly baffled
