im looking to do a little bit of work to my 2003 f-250 4x4....looking to get a leveling kit, fender flares, and some new wheels currently the truck has 285/75/16 tires on it and when they wear out will be switching to 315/75/16 tires....my question is what size wheel would work with both of those tires but push the tire out about 1-1.5" past the wheel well so they dont look stupid with the fender flares?

If I were you, I would not purchase another set of 16" wheels. You will notice a huge difference in "looks" if you go with 18" or 20" wheels. The LT315/75R16 tires is 34.5" tall. With 35" tires, you would want a wheel width between 9-10 inches with approximately 5" to 4.5" of back spacing respectively.
4.5" Lift Kit - 35" Tires - 16" Wheels
4.5" Lift Kit - 35" Tires - 17" Wheels
4.5" Lift Kit - 35" Tires - 18" Wheels
4.5" Lift Kit - 35" Tires - 20" Wheels
All of these trucks had the 4.5" Icon lift kit and 35" tall tires installed. The only difference was the wheels. On a side note, I didn't see any truck with 35" tires and a leveling kit. I'm not saying that you must have a 4.5" lift kit but it appears that most people go with a taller lift kit for clearance issues.

On a leaf-sprung truck, we suggest a minimum of 4" lift to run a 35" (or metric equivalent) tire. On '08+ trucks, they can be run on stock or leveled suspensions due to the larger fender wheel openings.
