Trans Cooler

So I really would like to put a better trans cooler on my truck, since i keep occasionally getting a trans fluid smell. I have read alot about people putting the 6.0 cooler on a 7.3 truck, but I have the 5.4gasser. Is there a trans cooler that I could put into my 2001 5.4?

the 6.0 cooler would work great on your truck.

My 03 has what seems a big factory cooler its about 25" long and 12" high I just installed a tranny temp guage so I can monitor the temp. Might be a good idea to get one before you get the cooler If its not getting hot maybe you dont need a different cooler.

I think the 6.0 cooler is a direct bolt in you might have to change the fittings though.

I believe you need to get a half inch diameter to a 3/8" diameter barbed hose fitting. The outlets on the 6.0 cooler is half inch while the lines from your tranny is 3/8" dia. Everything else should bolt directly on. You'll need 2 of those fittings and 4 of those screw type clamps to secure the hose on the fittings.

I think I saw those fittings at Lowe's where they keep those little brass pipe fittings and elbows, etc.

Good luck. If you can, please post pictures of your install. I would like to do this mod someday when I have more $$$.

I was having a problem with my tranny getting hot this winter while plowing. I looked at the 6.0 cooler also but couldn't find a good deal on one. I went to my local orielly auto parts and bought the ten inch electric fan they have in stock, $59 bucks. Added it on top of the tranny cooler. Now when it starts to get warm just flip a switch and watch the tranny temp gauge go down. Not discouraging the 6.0 cooler just giving you a different options.
