Cab/Bed Alignment

I have a 1992 F-150 Super Cab. The body lines on the cab don't align with those on the bed. It's a lot worse on the LH side than the RH side. The truck has all-original paint, has never been hit, and has never been apart. From observing other trucks of the same era, it seems to be a fairly common trait.

Is the fix to replace the cab mount "biscuts"? Mine are showing their age, but don't want to dig into that if it's not the problem. I can't really think of anything else it might be, except that they were just built that way. I can't think Ford would let them out with that much mis-alignment though.

If everyone agrees that it is the rubber biscuts, where can I find replacements? Is it a stealership-only item, or is there another source?

All input is appreciated.

Thanks,

JD

if you want the stock rubber ones then the dealer is your best bet, otherwise there are a few aftermarket companys that make polyurethane ones. the poly ones come in a set for your whole cab and i think they are around 60 bucks. personaly id go with the polys

I'd go with the rubber unless you like squeeks.

I had a chebby truck squeak. I took them back apart and coated both sides and the bolt hole with vaseline and that fixed it.

So, the consensus is cab mount bushings. I'm leaning towards OEM to maintain the factory set-up. I think the poly mounts might transmit too much NVH into the cab. Anyone using the poly mounts notice this?

I noticed that they get squeeky after a while and you have to lube them up again which requires unbolting and lifting it all again, whereas the rubber does not.

Your probably right, it would have to be re-done and replace the bolts every so often as well. Truck burnt to the ground a few months after I swapped bodies. (Thank you quadrajet )

I did notice on my F150 the front squeaked a lot after installing poly sway bar bushings. I'm not positive it was them squeaking since I heard it in the cab, but I never heard the squeak before I put them in.
