Hey guys, Gonna start the body work on my 1978 ford f150 short bed this week, as soon as i sand all the rustoleum paint off i put on it a few months ago. Truck sits under a tent. LOTS of moisture here in Hawaii! Wanted to know if anyone installed the race trim moldings on a truck that didnt have them? I eventually want to do a two tone paint job, and would like to put the factory side moldings on my truck. How difficult, of how much of a pain in the a$$ it would be? Dont want to just pinstripe to seperate colors, really want the side moldings. Will post pics in a few days. Maybe before the rustoleum paint comes off. LOL!
can be done but lots of work and you need to be very carefull drilling the holes in the right spots to line the race track moulding up straight but the clips will slide one way or the other so keeping a stright line is a must if you have the mouldings all ready you could remove the clips, tape the moulding onto the truck and trace the out line with a pencil, make a template with a peice of plastic the exact width of the trim, drill a hole in the middle of it and that will be your guide for the holes just make sure to seal the holes with silocone and under coat or rock gurd on the back side or rust will be an issue shortly all of my trucks have that moulding and i think it "makes the truck" you will be happy with the look hope this helps hey if you got a spare room it may be time for a "working on a dent" holliday any ways, never being to hawaii!
I built a 1 ton last summer that had NO chrome. The high chrome is easy the low chrome not so much but its well worth it. Painted it black and silver..love the two tone look. I put the piece on the door first as it is the easiest. Then use that to line up the fender piece. As described I held the piece where I wanted it then used a pencil to outline, find the center of the outline and drill holes. Again well worth the trouble..
