Your first dentside

So I thought it might be kinda fun to post any pictures/info or funny stories on the first dentside you bought.

Here's mine: It was a 1979 F250 4x4 that I found just a few miles down the road from my house. I found this truck sitting in the guy's yard after I had spent weeks looking on craigslist for an old ford. So without really knowing much about these trucks I bought it from him for $2000. Well, the truck had front drum brakes, a divorced transfer case, a gas tank behind the seat, and no vin tag on the door or the cab or anywhere else. So I did some research and came to the conclusion that it was probably a 75 or older truck with 79 grille and a false title. Plus the 351M that was in it ran pretty weak, the mud tires it had made it terrible to drive down the road, the front axle needed to be rebuilt, it needed body mounts, somethin was wrong with the transfer case, the gas gauge was broken, and the engine needed work since it smoked out one of the exhaust pipes. Sooo I wasn't too happy....but luckily I was able to pawn it off on some kids who were looking for a mud truck and i made $500 in the process.

Sorry no pics buty first Dent was a 76 2WD 302/C4 long bed on 31s. Did some bodywork, shot new Wimbledon white in my carport, drove it for a year, and then sold it off. Made $300 off it.

Ran out of gas once ..... from an indicated half tank it would suddenly drop to empty. I didn't notice on time so I was 2-10... two feet and 10 toes in the hot sun with an empty fuel can headed to a gas station. Stupid sender.... its resistive windings were all bunched up.

No pics but I do have a pretty good story.....My first one was also the first 4x4 I owned. It was a late '77 f150 flareside swb 4 speed. I bought it from an older guy in '82. I owned it a total of 10 minutes before I had it buried in the snow in a cut thru a hill on a dirt road. I thought I could go anywhere with 4 wheel drive and when it came to a rest in the drifted snow in that cut, all 4 tires were 4 feet above the surface of the road. I hit the snow drift hard and my momentum carried me up that far. It was about a 4 mile walk back to town in -20 degree weather in the dark to try and find someone with a 4x4 truck that would come and help a duimb a** kid out. A buddy of mine knew an old guy who had to have been in his 80's who had an old IH Scout that finally agreed to come pull me out for a fifth of whiskey. (The ol' boy liked his Old Crow) I climbed in the Scout with him and he smelled like he'd been living in a bottle of Old Crow for about 40 years.........LOL...............after chaining up all 4 wheels on the Scout and stretching out about 200 feet of misc. chains, cables and tow ropes to reach my truck, the old Scout pulled me out. I followed the ol' boy to the liquor store and bought him his bottle.............BTW..............I fourwheeled that 77 HARD for a lot of years............Loved that truck

Here's mine. I bought it back in '96 or '97. It was on the hotrod power tour in '98. I shouldn't have sold it, so now I'm re-creating it with my current truck. Back then I swapped the body to a 4X4 frame and as fate would have it, I'm doing it again on the new truck. Paint job will be similar, but nicer flames.

My first was a 79 f150 4x4! It had the 400 with auto trans 35 in tires. Bought it in 2001 for a thousand dollars best vehicle I've ever owned never had any problems with it! I used it for my personal vehicle! It would go from hauling hay and out playing in the mud to goin to the grocery store sure do miss it. Few years later bought a used snow plow for a thousand made some money pushing snow! Sold it in 2009 for $2500! Oops better get back to work before I get in trouble lol!

Npt a real big picture taker, but my first dent was a 77 250 (before y20,001) with a 400 C6 and 205. Had a factory ordered LP60 up front and a LS 60 in the rear, with 4.10's in both. It was owned from new by one of my father's friends since he ordered it new. First time I saw it, when I was about 7, I told him I was gonna own that truck one day. He always told me there was no way, because he'd pass it on to his son. Well he already had 2 daughters, and by the time I turned 15 he had 3 more daughters and was done having kids. So I hounded him daily for about 4 months after I turned 15 to sell me the truck. Finally, one day, he threw out a number, I didn't have all the cash and asked if we could do a payment plan. He rejected, then I sweetened the deal and told him I'd never even think about asking one of his daughters out. He said he'd think about it. About a week goes by, he says he's got a whole mess of NOS parts that he wanted to install, and it was gonna be a packaged deal...I told him I couldn't afford the truck, much less the parts. He told me he'd drop the price a grand and he'd let me make installments on the truck, and would throw in the parts. However, I could never sniff around his daughters, and I couldn't deface his truck, and I'd have to bring the truck over every now and then. I pay the truck off quickly, stay away from his daughters and about 3 years goes buy and the truck gets a pretty thorough restore, with some of my flare thrown in. And now I take him out to eat in the truck about once a month.

my first dent was and still is my 79 F250 4x4. It had a wore out 351m in it, C6 automatic, flatbed farm truck. I have put so much work into that truck and definately worth more than what i paid for it which was..... $200.

My first one was a 79 Bronco with a 351M. Had some good times in the truck. Ended up getting hung on a rock and pushed the hitch into the gas tank. Just ran a 5 gallon can strapped to the tailgate. Was a $600 truck. Should have kept more of it because it had a tilt column that was good, factory CB, buckets with console, and a cruise wheel.

Bought my first dent a couple years ago...I've owned early Broncos for about 20 years (4 of them) and and tried to get into 64 1/2 - 67 Mustangs, but I'm a truck guy. Saw a lot of dents in WA state when I lived there and knew I had to get one.

Bought a 75 F-250 a couple years ago and love it. Had to get a 79 F-350 crew cab a year later. The 75 goes anywhere, snow or dirt. Here's my highboy.

Your right about there being a ton of dents in the Pacific Northwest, if you go on Craigslist their’s tons of them for sale. I bought my truck, and my neighbor liked it so much he went out and got himself one!

I drove a 73 F100 302 - 3 speed orange explorer in high school. Just a couple years ago I found a 77 F100 302 - 3 speed orange exporer. Almost identicle to my old truck. Been fixing all the mechanical issues before I take the time to paint it. Florida truck that had sat for at least 15 years. When I bought it, it ran, but had bias ply tires and no seatbelts. Anyway, have to install a new clutch this spring and that should about take care of all the issues. Been fun to fix and drive "my old truck" again.
