Took my 04 f-250 6.0 to the shop on monday for the no boost issue. First they told me the valve in the intake was broke and it needed a new one. No problem. Then they told me it needed a Sensor (something to do with the High pressure oil pump???) No problem. Still not working Now they are telling me It needs the High pressure oil pump. It starts fine when hot he says but nothing over 2000 psi???? This is supposed to be one of the better diesel shops in town but Im wondering about my choice of shops. I could throw 2100 dollars at it my self!!!!
Thanks
Tim
It is not at all uncommon to have overlapping problems that can contribute to a particular concern. The "valve in the intake" was probably the EGR valve, which will definitely limit boost if it does not close all of the way. The only sensor directly related to the high pressure oil system is the injection control pressure (ICP) sensor and if it is not reading accurately, it can cause the PCM to deliver less fuel than desired.
It sounds like they think the HPOP is not developing enough pressure. If that's the case there is a test in the manual to determine if it meets specs. Lower than desired oil pressure can also be caused by bad injector o-rings, oil rail o-rings, branch tube problems, and some others.
Without being there to see what their diagnostic process is, there isn't much grounds for us to argue against their recommendations, and you did state they are one of the better shops that you know of. If you aren't comfortable with the work they are doing, ask for an explanation or take it to someone else.
Thanks! the egr is blocked off so don't think that was it but he did say there was a lot of egr codes. Been a auto tech for years but never worked on diesels before so just wanted a second opinion. He said he was certain the pump was it so I guess we will see.
Thanks again!!!
