DTE calculations

Been lurking around for a while and I finally need to ask a question. All of the information here is so helpful I just haven't had the need until now.

I purchased a 2011 CC SB in January after selling my 6.0. We tow a 30 ft fiver and 24 foot flatbed for toys. I love all the info available through the info center but for the life of me I can't figure out how to use the DTE selection for towing or normal driving.

I set the DTE to trailer when towing and it seams to work fine. When I'm finished towing I set DTE back to normal and the DTE calculations are all wrong. I would have expected the truck to keep two different calculations and to use one or the other when it knows a trailer is plugged in.

What am I doing wrong?

I find the DTE display frustrating. Will show less than a hundred miles left with about a third tank of fuel. Gallons used on the trip meter is around 16 or 17. So really should have 150-180 miles left.

I dont have an answer to your question, just venting my experience too.

Thanks! Just when I think I've got a handle on these acronyms there's another one that I just can't figure out. I have yet to tow, so I have yet to utilize that information.

Maybe someone with loads of spare time could put together a document with all the 6.7 PS acronyms........ Just sayin'!

Just curious if you discovered the issue..... I switched mine to "Towing" DTE and when i switched back to "normal"(several times) it acts like it is still stuck in the towing mode. Full tank of fuel shows 350 miles DTE where in the past it would read around 600.

Funny this thread should come up just now. I usually never check my DTE, but a couple of days ago I was at the station & filled my tank, I was talking to the dealer about how I haven't had to add DEF in a long time, because I just don't hardly go anywhere anymore, so when I left I went through the info system and the DTE said 368 miles to empty with a full tank, WOW I thought, then I saw my past average mileage was 14.5 & did the math 14.5 X 26 = 366 mile , try that and see if computs out for you!!

Sounds reasonable but my avg MPG is 17 and i have the 38?? gallon tank. After further research on FTE, i saw where someone mentioned you gotta shut the truck off when you refill to allow the sensor to recognize the fuel added. I am guessing i didnt shut it down to fuel due to winter blast here in Texas(31 this am) brrrr. Hoping that's it.

I have found that when you go from towing to normal it takes a tank or two to reset!!!

I have not found any screen to reset the DTE. After a tank or two of fuel it will reset or recalibrate the DTE!!!!

Settings > Vehicle > DTE Calculation

It gives you the option to switch between towing and normal.

If I have to wait a tank or two for a reset, it's a totally wasted feature. I tow for about 4 hours one day, then go sightseeing without the trailer for a couple of days, usually all on one tank of fuel.

I would expect it to maintain two different figures. If I have a full tank, I would expect to see something like 38 gallons x 18 mpg = 684 miles remaining on normal, and if I switch it to towing, it should show 38 gallons x 10 mpg = 380 miles remaining.

Unfortunately, it doesn't make any difference. I think the programmers screwed up on this "feature".

And I shouldn't HAVE TO make the change, if it did work. If they fix the calculations, they should also tie it into the trailer brake controller so that when the truck detects "Trailer connected", it would automatically switch to towing mode for DTE.

What's the difference between towing and normal DTE? I leave mine on towing all the time. It is very accurate, resets itself fairly quickly when I unhook and reset the MPG screen.

That might be the trick, reset your MPG screen when you either unhook or hook up. That's when the drastic change in economy happens and you need the DTE calculation to be re-worked. Never had a problem with mine and this is how I use the system.
