Hi gang! I was trying to find out about the clutch pressure plate for my 73 F100--I'm swapping out the 360 and putting in the 302,
I bought a clutch but it wasn't what was shown in the photo and it has the "daisy-wheel" center instead of the 3-prongs, is that gonna work anyway? It's surely a nice new clutch but I guess it has to fit Too--Manual linkage, not hydraulic, wanna get it right the first time...
Hi me again, OK but I've got the throwout bearing that comes with the clutch...are you saying it will fit?? And with the clutch fork from the diaphram clutch?
Without having the parts in front of me it's hard to say but I'm thinking it should. Others that have more experience with swaps will probably know. You are using the flywheel from the 302, right?
Where in the cities are you? I'm in Robbinsdale.
Greg
the daisy wheel type is a newer version, they are ment to replace the three prong type. your best bet is to make sure your pressure plate mounting bolts matches up with the fly wheel you're going to use.

Wow! A whole bunch of helpers! Yeah the clutch matches the bolt pattern on the flywheel just fine, it just seems to me that the pressure plate isn't as thick (tall?) as the 3 pronger, looks like a modernized pilot bearing too, with needle bearings and all, I'm mostly concerned with getting the linkage for the old 360's clutch to line up and having the right fork and xyz-
The diaphram type pressure plate takes less effort to push in and is less apt to chatter. I have used them in a 302 and a 390 with no problems. I am not aware that the throwout bearing is different.
If memory serves me correctly the throw-out bearing for the three prong has a flat face where the adjustment bolts on the pressure plate fingers make contact. The face on the diaphragm type is profiled with a raised ring to make even contact throughout it's travel.
Hey macguyver guy...I think I am visualizing what you are talking about, with the raised ring and all, but the bearing the guy sent me is the flat face, I think he sent a mismatch...FYI I'm just north of Minnehaha Park in MPLS....still puzzeling, I can't find an exploded view anywhere that matches what I'm looking at here
Yup, sounds like the wrong throw-out bearing. Just checked with my brother and the diaphragm pressure plate is correct for the application. Have them look you up a different throw-out bearing.
Hope this helps.
