Could use some advice here. The rear shock dust shields on my '02 Sport Trac rusted off. The shocks have not failed and are not leaking. They are factory OEM's with 80,000 miles. Is this reason enough to replace them since they still function? There is no rust on the shock body, yet. Some of you may say let 'em go and others will say replace them, so I'm on the fence. If I replace them, do I need to do all 4? This truck is RWD, so I don't off-road with it. It's a commuter and weekend DIY project vehicle. Lots of varying opinions on shocks with internet research, but I take most of my advice from our group here. Wouldn't mind something a bit softer. The potholes and crappy PA roads are killing me. I'm considering Monroe SensaTrac's, but I'd like to hear from the group. Thanks all.
9 years old - 80k on them. Might be a good time to replace them. And YES, replace all 4 at once just to insure that the truck is in harmony from front to back. This isn't necessary but it is a good idea to do all 4 at once, a matching set.
I had Ranchos and then Sensatracs on my '99 Explorer, and I by far enjoyed the SensaTracs the most. Compliant ride throughout. The Ranchos were a little firm, and it rode like a truck.
Bilstein and KYB would also be some good options for your SportTrac.
I have the sensatracs in my AWD and i hate them. First and last time i use those. Truck is so soft and they dont last long. Next up i wanna try the edelbrock ias performers. They are around $60 apiece though.
