Front Shock Travel length?

So I've been working through the new to me 01 F350 4x4 issues and I've worked my way to the front shocks. I'm thinking something isn't right here. The front shocks are obviously replacement shocks and appear to be all shock body and no shaft. The exposed shock shaft is only 2.5" or so... This can't be right can it?

Initially, I would say no. Is the truck lifted or did the previous owner have it lifted? The brake line bracket looks odd to me as mine is horizontal with the line going straight down instead of straight out. Maybe they switched this out for my 2002 but I an not sure. Is that black mark on the frame rail where the tire might be rubbing when you have the wheel all the over to the right? The previous owner might have taken off their shocks and just put these on to sell the truck. Any info on the shock? While I have a 6.5" lift on mine, my shocks still have at least that much (6" or more) travel left in them.

The brake line bracket looks exactly the same as my 99 so I would say there is no issue there. As far as the shock travel goes, the way to know if there is not enough shaft travel left is to measure how much travel you have left in your suspension. What is the distance from the top of you leaf spring to the bump stop? Then add probably half the thickness of the bump stop to that and that would be roughly the amount of shock travel that you should have at a minimum.

Just looking at the picture it looks like it is too short but if you suspension is completely sacked out, then maybe you are just setting really low in the travel. Taking some measurements is the only way to know for sure.

Look up your truck and see what shock you should have on there, then find it's spec's and see what the range of the OEM shock should be.

All great suggestions... Thanks
Guess common sense wins out. I have exactly 2" of shaft showing and exactly 3" between the bump and and the diff. I have a few brand new stock shocks left over from a 6" lift I installed for a friend years ago. Might be a good time to dig them out of storage and compare. Thanks again

EDIT...

So I got up in the attic and found these. They look like there is about 4" of travel in both directions with these installed. They are motocraft so I'm betting these are the right ones. Sometimes being a parts hoarder pays off. LOL

Second EDIT...

Take off's from my buddy's rig are painted up and installed. Way Mo Betta now!
