My 2002 F-350: I have been having a bad skipping, slamming (when in the throttle) BUT only when it is hot. I will literally leave my house and at the same spot everyday it starts. It starts off by ticking, then turns into knocking, then turns into slamming/jolting. If i shut the truck off and imediately start it back up it takes a while but it will fire and smokes like crazy (blue/white). If i turn it off and sit there for 30 minutes it will run fine for a little while and then starts all over again.
I have changed the fuel filter, cleaned the tank pickup, and added fuel additive for water.
I dont have a lot of money to throw at this right now so i am trying to narrow this problem down. I have searched through all the forums and have found similar posts but not ONLY WHEN HOT. Truck runs and starts fine when cold.

Do you feel the vibrations or does it just continue until it sounds like someone is beating your engine block with a ball peen hammer as hard as possible?
When you say you cleaned the pick up in the tank, are you referring to the pick up foot or did you take apart the white thing and clean the two cylinder shaped screens inside?

When it is starting to act up i can hear the difference in the motor... starts sounding like spark knock on an old 351... then it gets worse/louder... then starts sounding like someone is railing it with a ball peen hammer LOUD.... then immdediately starts jolting and i have to let off the throttle. It jolts so bad it seems like something is cutting out.
I took the white things apart and cleaned them too. fuel bowl is good and clean too.
I unpluged the icp when the motor was cold and running ok and once unplugged it sounded like there was a slight load on the motor. bogged down a little bit... CEL came on when i unpluged it... then when i pluged it back in the light stayed on for a bit and still the motor sounded like it was bogged down and after about 45seconds it picked back up like it was fine.
Unplugging the ICP will throw the P1280 code and set the dash light so no worries about that.
Your description sounds like the injectors are starving for fuel. Just to rule things out, take the keys out of the ignition and remove your chip. Then get a fuel pressure gauge on it and watch your fuel pressure. My guess is as the noise gets louder, fuel pressure is getting lower and you're hearing injector knock.
On the back side of your fuel bowl are 2 plugs that can be used as a test port. The one closer to the top is easier to get to. They are labeled pressure port adapters in this pic since Bob sells a 90 deg fitting to go in one of those holes to make hooking the gauge up easier.
So i have a question. We hooked it up to a computer today and all the codes seem to be "low voltage" to the sensors. I am no mechanic but i would think thats my problem but i dont know where to start looking. I dont know how the fuel system works or in what order.
Today i started out with the programmer on "stock" setting. I was able to drive about double the distance i usually can until it started its routeen. Also if i easy hit the throttle and get up to speed it wouldn't jolt/Slam. but as soon as i held the throttle down it started slamming. usually its on 80 economy
Also the dealrship told me they cant get me in for a buzz test for a week and a half.
Jim, I have a scan tool and can do a buzz test as well as a cylinder contribution test. I'm also in the process of making a injector breakout box. I work in Clinton but live about 30 mins south of there. Not sure if it would be possible to cross paths with you at some point to run these tests on your truck. Let me know.
No, it just means you have low fuel pressure. The most common cause of this is a restriction at the screens inside the mixing chamber in the fuel tank if you haven't done the in tank mods.
Could possibly be the under the valve cover harnesses backing off and not making a connection, this has caused my truck to jolt under acceleration before.
