F250 w/6.0 Diesel. Heater didn't work all winter. Last week engine guage showed engine was starting to over heat. Dealer said needed EGR and oil cooler needed to be replaced and should watch head gaskets. Wanted $2,300.
Second opinion could find nothing leaking on EGR or oil cooler but found a leak in a head gasket. Suggested I get rid of the truck ASAP because the problem if fixed would keep repeating.
Truck is paid for and only has 73,000 miles. I thought it would last 4 times that long. I'm retired and another truck would cost a lot and my trade in would be worth much.
I don't know who is trying to cheat me or what the deal is. I just drive my truck I'm not a mechanic.

Without actually seeing it, I can only give some guidelines. One, why do you say its overheating? Is it blowing white smoke out of the tailpipe? Is the coolant venting out of the degas bottle? Is it running bad?
Second opinion who recommended getting rid of the truck said a head gasket is leaking. He put the truck on the rack and found the leak. He wasn't interested in doing the repair so I doubt he is scamming me. The first opinion said they wanted to replace the oil coooler and EGR. I suspect when they got it in the shop they would have called to add the head gaskets.
I'd let Vloney take a look at it if you're reasonably close. He knows what he's doing and I'm not sure either opinion 1 or 2 are correct. Heater not working is interesting and may be related. Did you have to add coolant?
Coolant was added by the 1st opinion (Ford dealer). I was concerned about the $2300 so I took it to a trusted mechanic for a second opinion. My concern is whether or not to fix the truck or get rid of it because it is a 6.0 and will continue with problems.
