pop riviting patch panels

I'm thinking about cutting/bending a piece of sheet metal and pop riviting it into place. Then filling the holes with something. Would this work?? It doesn't have to be pretty. I just need something to fill in the rusted out cab corners and the hole in the floor. What gauge steel should I use? Thanks

Hey Boss - Welcome to FTE and the Bodywork forum.

I just don't see how that would work unless you're planning on making it look good enough to dump on some poor unsuspecting sucker.

1st, you'd have no way of keeping the existing rust from spreading.

2nd, you'd have no way of protecting the new sheetmetal.

3rd, I doubt you'd have any strength in the floorboards.

There's a lot of info and many useful minds in this forum that can point you in the right direction to make the needed repairs. For the proper way to do the sheetmetal work/welds you may want to check out the following thread. Good luck on whatever you decide to do and please keep us informed as to your progress.
