I have here a 2002 Ford F-350 7.3L. Customer says he was drving the truck down the road and next thing you know it was sputtering and had to milk it to his shop. He then decided to replace the fuel filet. I have no clue what prompted him to do that. So he replaced ut but now all the vehicle does is crank over and and not start. checked codes and upon first inspection found codes p1670, p0381, p0460, p0603. Cleared the codes and ran a KOEO self test and came back with code p0605. It does have a superchip in it. I removed the fuel filter and checked to see if there was fuel getting up to the fuel filter housing and there is I just dont know if it' enough. The wait to start does come on for 20 seconds the turns off. Any help would be amazing. thanks in advance.
maybe try putting a pressure gauge on your fuel line and check the pressure it should be around 55-60 psi IIRC. that should rule out the pump. if thats ok then i would replace the CPS.
im looking for the code meanings, they are here somewhere. others will chime in soon with more info.
The WTS is a sign that the fuel bowl heater is not shorted out killing the fuel pump too, so thats good. I don't think any of those codes will cause a no start issue. Oil level full and fresh? Apparently you have a scanner, what is live data for ICP and IPR duty cycle or % while cranking? Depending on year model of truck is the tach moving while cranking>
I did not lookat the live data stream for those device but I I did notice that while cranking over the engine the rpm was showing around 150 rpm but the guage n the dash was not moving. I did not check the oil level.
It must be an '02 then for the tach to not move with an RPM signal, since you are seeing an RPM signal the CPS is likely good. Oil level in the HPOP which can be checked by removing the allen plug on the top of the resevoir should be 3/4" from the top, if its empty due to lack of engine oil, or possible IPR dumping oil, it will not start, the PCM has to see 500PSI from the ICP sensor around 100RPM tach signal, and around 10.5V to even command the injectors to fire.
you may think this is weird and i may be wrong but lack of oil will cause our trucks hard to crank and to spudder and not run right. been there twice had turbo gasket, intake seal, and valve cover gaskets to leak on me
So I have checked the fuel pressure out of the frame mounted fuel pump and I am getting 70-80 psi. I swapped out the cmp sensor with a new updated one from ford cause ther was no tach signal and still no start. I hooked up the scan tool and looked at the rpm while cranking and it is reading 150-200 rpm. Any other thoughts of what I can check?
I also did check the oil level and found it low So I put 4 quarts of delo 400 in it and still no luck. I have also read to check the HPOP. Where is it and how do I check the level?
Before you confirmed the fuel pressure test readings I was going to say clogged mixing chamber screens in the tank but if your getting that fuel PSI's that might not be it.
May be a long shot, but have you check the UVCH? If it came unplugged then the injectors would have no signal. I second the cranking voltage, could be something as simple as weak batteries.
What is the Injector control pressure while cranking? What is the IPR% or duty cycle at? Could be a dirty or faulty IPR, faulty ICP still. Tin nut on the back of the IPR?
I found the problem. When I checked the fuel pressure out of the electric fuel pump I had 70 plus of fuel pressure but when I disconected the pressure line I got alot of air. I took the gauge off and checked fuel volume and there was none. I ran a line from a gas can full of diesel to the fuel pump and the vehicle ran so there is a problem inside the tank. so next step is to remove the tank. Any idea what is going on in there and how much parts are going to be?
