Just bought my first truck about a week ago...97 F250 PSD with a ZF5. When driving and shifting there is alot of transmission "clatter". I pulled the inspection plate off the tranny and i believe i have a dual mass flywheel. I would like to do the solid flywheel conversion but i am lost with all of the options. Any help or info would be great! Sorry for being such a newbie. Great forum.
I've called there a few times and got someone other than Dan, i wont mention names but he was pretty rude more than once and to another person i referred to over there. So if he's available ask for Dan lol other than that I couldn't be happier with my set up, I've pushed my Kevlar/ceramic to it's limits and I cannot get it to slip! If you get a higher hp rated clutch you will experience some of that clatter just a more toned down version. The DMF is designed to remove that noise and the new spring clutch design helps with it in a SMF swap but does not eliminate all of it. Going stock clutch I wouldn't worry about the noise at all.
Is the clatter noise from the higher grade clutches unbearable? If I'm going to be paying all this money down the road for a clutch, I'd hate for it to clatter...
Yeah, after seeing that, I'm definitely going to go single mass if/when I do the transmission swap. What does the noise sound like, exactly? I don't care if it's just noise, but if it makes the truck sound like a rattling bucket of bolts... well, then I'll have to fix that somehow.
my gear roll over was OBNOXIOUS, when ever i could i would keep my foot on the clutch at all times, i even hated letting it idol when i was around and im a big fan of leaving it running when i run into a store real quick of something. but its taken like...8000 miles and its not all that bad any more but its still there a little bit, not nearly as bad as it was.
