EOT V ECT

Ok heres what's gong on. Purchased the truck 06 F-250 PSD Crew Cab 4X4 short bed about a month ago. Installed Scangauge 11 week ago. This morning going to work EOT was 16 degrees higher than ECT. Out side ambient temp was 25 degrees traveling at 65-70 mph. I have heard temp range should only be about 6-8 degrees apart, is this correct? What's going on. Truck is still under warranty until Sept/2011...Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks

Read these. Mine run 10 - 14 depending on pulling a load or not

If yur ect was around 190 and you were running on a level patch of highway, yur oil cooler is pluggin up. Take it in to the dealership and have them look at it. Make sure they run it down the road to check the temps. Mine did it in the shop and they could not get the temps I was seein on the road. Have them replace the egr cooler with the oil cooler. Some shops will do alternatives, if asked.

That temp diff. seems to be alittle high in normal driving conditions. If you were under a load situation understandable for a period of time, but that seems to be edging to the highside I.E. get ready to spend money or in your case bill the warranty. If it is under warranty maybe get the cooling system pressure tested to see where your at too high and you have a clogg.

Running the interstate, my fresh coolers run 4-6° difference. If you are seeing 16° running empty, even on hills, I think you've got a problem developing. If you were to hook up a load and hit the road you would not like the oil temp. We've seen worse, but you've got a problem.

Would be good if you gave us the actual temps you saw.

Was running the freeway this morning, about 32 deg. outside temp. At 70 mph I get 190 coolant, oil is 195. Take your truck in for warranty repair. This summer your temp spread will be several deg. more then your seeing now.

Some claim that flushing the cooling systen have helped in bringing down the temp spread. If it's still under warranty, the only option is replacement of coolers.

I did the coolant flush 3 weeks ago and installed the dieselsite coolant filter. While towing my 32' TT I see 14 degree spread and 8 - 10 while not towing. I guess I shouldnt worry until it get's worse.

The largest spread I've seen was ECT 171 / EOT 197....Most of the time it reads ECT 177 / EOT 191 Thanks
I will be off-line but will check back...Thanks Again Everyone

Okay, your ECT is low, which means you need a new thermostat. You should have been well into the 190's on the interstate. So before you make any repair decisions, change your t-stat and then test again. You probably still have a problem, but worth taking an extra step first.

On edit: You said you were going to work, and I don't know how far that is. So I'm making an assumption that you should have been up to temp, and that might not be correct. Suffice to say, the 15° spec only applies when the engine is fully up to temp.

x2 - change your t-stat.

Normally, the ECT gets up to temp FIRST.
Then the EOT usually goes ABOVE the ECT.
With a bad t-stat (ie: ECT of 171*) you can't
make any determination of your temp delta.

He also didn't state how far he had driven! It takes a good 15 to 20 miles hiway speed for all temps to equalize. If it was less than that it could explain the cold ect and wide spread.
