Ok Back for a few, My drive is about 65 miles at intestate speeds up a down hill in PA so truck should be well warmed up. Would it make a difference with my ECT being in the 170's with ambient out side temp in the 20-30 degree range? Thanks You Guys Are Great...I'll be back...Sorry I am just real busy!!!
Misky6.0 you may be right he needs to get new and see , but one thing everyone sees 15 or more and freaks . I had eots at 235 and ects 192 new themo, put in new oil cooler and adjusted my egr cooler , cut oil cooler open and it was not to bad starting a little buildup but open. But not stopped up and were talking 44 degrees diff. have pics in my albumof oil cooler

Yes. The job of the t-stat is to limit coolant flow, so that your engine maintains operating temp regardless of outside temp. Yours is working, just at a lower than desirable temp. The spring is tired.
Exactly how that will affect the ECT/EOT delta is debatable.
Since you have warranty, maybe you should just turn the whole thing over to the dealer. Your t-stat should be covered as well. They covered mine even though it was brand new.

I agree, other's have said the "old" standard was 20* delta.
I drove 1300 miles round-trip with it w/o issue - of course this was
in late November (it was 26*F in NC when I got there).
But, when the ambient temp got over 70* or so that is when
it got to 207 or 208*. Didn't want to wait until summer to find out
what happens. I took a couple of months to replace it,
I figured I'd rather replace it too soon than wait too long and be
towing something and suddenly end up on the side of the road.
Without the SGII, I'd have had no idea what was going on until.......
I have been watching mine for a year Iv seen as much as a 35 degree spreed to on a long drive but average a 20-25 degree spreed 180ect 205-210 eot
my thermistate was low 180s so I changed it yesterday
brought it to 190 better for combustion
A new thermistate confirmed what I thought. IT DID NOT bring them closer together the spread is still the same 20-25 degres. it just got hotter worse imo for the egr cooler anyway
just because you change your thermistate does not make the oil cooler more efficant
your spread will not close with a hotter thermistate
So time for a new oil cooler and egr cooler or egr deleate havent decided yet
have been filtering coolant for awhile and flushed 3000mi ago should be alot cleaner for the new cooler or coolers whatever I go with need to study more i guess
Blade, you've got a bad case there. You risk popping that oil cooler and making a real mess of your engine. I assume you are aware of this. I hope you can get her taken care of very soon.

I feel like im driving a ticking time bomb lol
gotta get it fixed ASAP going to start getting parts together
It does make me want to put the cooler thermistate back in for now
Blade i would not worry about the egr cooler being you have an 03. All tig welded stainess steel with tubes inside they can't be hurt, i welded mine but there was not anything wrong with it . I also had a 45 degree spread and when i cut my cooler open it was not stopped up but starting to get coolant gum inside. I did flush and coolant filter 1 month before getting scangauge and seeing temps. JMHO
Just got home from work and have to be back at 7pm. Just not enough hours in a day for me. Ok guys I just want to thank you all for your help..I will get it in to my dealer as soon as I can. I had asked my father Rocky1074 also a member about my issues an he had told me the same thing start with the thermostat and take it from there just like you guys told me..I guess I had to hear it from others. He's been there and done that with his 03. Well thank you all once again and I'll let you know how I make out..
Just never listens to dad who's been down that road..lol Thanks for all your replies to him guys..I told him there are a Great bunch on guys on FTE that are always willing to help!!! Now I got to get him to become a Supporter for FTE...
Driving on highway with 4000 pounds camper in the box. My EOT was at 186 and ECT 181. On another occasion, EOT 194, ECT 186. IA was at 35. When I drive in warmer climate, ECT was more in the 194.

Those are great numbers, kidoo. Your t-stat is a little on the low side, but not worth worrying about. I would wait for it to get worse before changing it, or until I had it out for a flush or something.

STILL amazes me how I get smarter as my Masters Degreed daughter gets older
Can''t tell you the number of times I heard "Oh DAD !!!!" with the prerequisite eye roll !
and Dad was a three syllable word
my sc2 shows 184 - 186 once warmed up..... may need a new thermostat one of these days too..... (or just wait for summer !)

I am with ya on that egr cooler I have also heard cheezit say he's only seen a handfull of bad 03 egr coolers too. The egr valve is also unpluged in the close position so I dont get the flow of exhaust gas threw the egr cooler either
But the part that worries me is like Bpounds says the oil cooler is on the edge its probably the one that most likly to go first and mix up a royal coolant/oiley mess. I gotta make a few runs from ut to ca through the desert this summer and thats when I think it will be most likely to blow out
