OK I'm new and I'v never done anything like this but I just want some opinions. Recently i blew my 351 in my 1983 f150 it was bored .060 over forged crank, rods, and pistons. It had edelbrock heads, intake, cam and carb. MSD box, coil and distibutor. Then it had headers runnning into an h pipe and duals. It had a built C6 and I cant remeber the gears... like 3.70 or something anyways it dynoed at like 390 rwhp and 410 rwfpt. Well like i said it blew so i got a 302 out of a 87 f150 and basically dropped a new edelbrock intake and new distributor and the carb, headers and everything i could use from the 351 on the 302. I took all the smog **** off too. Im just wondering with the carb and intake and exhaust and all the smog gone along with all the MSD stuff what kind off hp and torque ill be getting.
Well it was originally efi but we put a edelbrock carb and intake and some hedman headers and and it's just duals into an h pipe and dumps but it's got like a full MSD ignition setup and it had the tow package don't know if that helps
Built 302's are bad but don't expect it to be as bad as the larger V8 you had. As long as you keep that in mind you'll be happy.
I'm going to price crate engine 302's here in a minute. Sometimes I have to remind myseld why I don't buy crate engines. Ford crate engines are so expensive it's nuts.
Hard to say without being more specific on your parts. Heads, cams and intakes as you probably know can vary in how they perform by design. Some make low end torque, some make high end horsepower, some do a good job of balancing both, and matching all of these components to compliment each other is important.
The old saying is coming to mind right now. There's no replacement for displacement. Your going from a bored out 351 to a stock 302. I wouldn't expect miracles.
