If you look for the part on Summit Racing, you can narrow your selection my make, model, and year. Once you are looking at the converter, it will list other applications that the part # will fit.

I applaud your response to this thread, but I don't think anyone is listening.
Looking at torque converters on summit racing, I've always checked the application list and it doesn't say year, make, model, nothing, it just says ford and c6, so the search wouldn't work, all of them seem to go by pilot shaft size
Ok, I went to Autozone's site. I looked up a 1980 302, 4wd pickup and plugged in torque converter. The part number was a "Dacco c6". I then looked up a 86 f350, 7.5 liter, 4x4, and the part number was the same, "dacco c6". Look up some more years and different webistes for verification, but I believe they will interchange looking at Autozone's site.
If the trans came from behind a 351W, and is intended to behind another 351W, then the stock TC should fit fine.
If you are trying to determine which pilot size you need, measure the hole in your crank, or the stock TC, seems pretty simple to me.....
I believe there were some older big blocks that used a different pilot size, which is why they are listed by that manner. Pretty sure all TC to flexplate mounting holes are the same, so long as you're talking about the "normal" 4 stud design, for a C6.

I stand corrected. If you search "torque converter" on Summit you can sort by transmission and stall speed. Past that you have to look at each one individually to determine the its pilot size. Conclusion - All C6 converters are the same and can interchange, with the exception of the pilot size which is dictated by the crank, and not always the engine size.
