Exclamation 69 Coyote Swap

I want to be one of the first to get this engine in an old Bronco. Need some help! Right now we are going with the 5.0 and the necessary additions from ford for the engine (wiring harness, alternator, oil filter relocation brackt). We have a used transmission (an AODe off of a 2004). We are planning on buying an aftermarket controller for the trans and an Altas transfer case. Anybody done this yet? Any suggestions?

why bother? you need a body lift... and after all that money and trouble you could have installed a 408 windsor stroker motor running fast efi and have something....

Haven't heard of anyone attempting it yet, but I'm sure it will be done. Check over on classicbroncos.com Lot of members dealing only with EB's so a vast amount of knowlege to be had.

I don't know why. Maybe modern engine, modern trans, better fuel mileage, something no one has done. I am not planning a body lift. Stroker's are nice engines, don't get me wrong, just wanted the challenge.

Also, I have a buddy with a coyote in a a/c cobra replica and it has a unique unheard sound that would be impressive in a bronco. All the rest sound like old technology.

It's still a fairly new engine and expensive. I'm sure there will be more as time passes. Bronco owners love to modify them and just about every combination has been done. It's just a matter of available funds and planning. Only research will tell what modifications will be needed. Go for it, and post a build thread as you go.

Not sure the Q except being general in nature. Sorry a general answ is offered. U could tell us what U want to use it 4 to get more specific feedback.
Welcome to the site and esp this forum! Stick around, lotta great guys (U colud join ur local Chapter & meet up w/locals as I do. We get together often for "adult male entertainment") ;- }

1) the Ford AOD or the Chebby 700R4 are both options that you can look in to.
Either is somewhat of a pain..requires adapters and custom cross-member...different drive shafts.

2) Another AOD

I have a Lentech RV2000 AOD with low gearset in my Bronco It has worked
very well for me for ~5 years (granted the past 2 it has barely left the
garage). The only issue I would say I have with it is that due to the
throttle position needed to run down the highway with traffic (~75-80mph)
the OD rarely kicks in with the throttle cable adjusted properly (35"
radial street tires, 4.88's in the axles). Around town and cruising up to
50mph it is very nice having the OD though. The only other part I don't
like about AODs in general is the OD is a band rather than gearset, so it
will be more prone to wearing out; however I have yet to talk to someone
who has worn an aftermarket HD one out that had the throttle cable adjusted
properly.

Old correspondence on ECBR (2 or 3 of em).
All depends on application, application, application. I'm gunna try a 250/4.1 I6 in my lill bobtail (use 4 wrk not recreation), oem trani/transfer. Dream: ZF for the 2 PTOs n a lower 1st/add a 5th on top).

cb dot com is good to explore as suggested above by gfw1985 (Hi Richard. got 2 days of wrk, over now). just pull in ur ears 1st, lotta egos over there. I'd recomend the C4 due to the lack of power it robs, but again, don't know ur application (that's the whole automotive story if U ask me).

I really appreciate the feedback. I have a interesting situation in that my business is in the automotive area, so I can get parts much cheaper and utilize 160 technicians to do the work. What we need is some help with the initial decisions. All feedback is welcome. Thanks.

Oil pan clearance/design and bolt pattern for bell housing are the first things I'd look into. You can make anything fit, especially if you have the resources to fab adapters.

reliability and inexpensive comes to MY mind when U say that...nothing wrong w/the orig 170/200 (may B the 144 for even better gas mileage?). I like ur auto (aod) idea, or a 5 speed. "the beach" doesn't mean much 2 me unless U say "dune jumpin". Again the 170 (I skid 18"X 25 ft logs up steep hills w/mine, plow heavy wet sno, etc) is fine w/31" tires the oem 3 speed and 4:11 rear (rear gear - that's the trick I'm sure) for a lill heaver sand running. Where would that B? No info on ur sig or post. Just get some tires U can air down so as they grip/not dig in/will 'float' but still don't loose a bead @ 7 - 12# psi. Or the expensive single use "paddle tires". I want bead locker I can run on my 'wagons' and a off rd/street tires (like the BFG's TA/KO). May have to get a better wheel tho, just like the "wagons" look. Bud wheel is my fave for looks and everything else (but weight).

So dream on, enjoy, stay in touch.

I will make sure to post our parts list in the next couple of days. I would like to use the vehicle often. I have 4 girls in soccer, field hockey, horse back etc. and want to be their designated driver with this Bronco. Duck hunting with my 2 labs and surf fishing in North Carolina will be the heaviest action this Bronco will see.

Keep the feedback coming. I will be sure to document what we do.

Real curious to see how this turns out. I would look into the oil pan (I know the 5.0 comes in the new f150, but don't know if it has a rear sump pan). May be a non issue, but where I would start. Figure out the tranny, and work from there. Should be a powerhouse, and the aftermarket should get big for it over the next couple of years if you want more power.

There has been everything from cummins swaps to a 7.3 powerstroke put in one of these, not to mention Triton motors are starting to get popular. The Coyote is pretty similar to the Triton (bell housing bolt pattern and physical size), so it should be doable with enough determination. Lets see some pics!

We need to get to 25 posts then I can put pics up. Right now we are going with an AODe trans w/ nods to handle 600 HP and an Atlas 2 transfer case. I am not going to go to 600 HP but the choice later and durability now matter to me. We will know more about the oil pan in the next couple of weeks.
