cab twisting....

Ok well when i hit the gas the cab goes to the left hard and when i let go it goes back to the right. The axle stays going straight. I replaced my motor mounts last weekend thinking they were the cause but it still does it. i was thinking now that it might be the spring bushings. Becuase that is the only thing I can think of that is touching the cab. what do you guys think? o yeah i checked the cab mounts thier good.

Look for cracks along the firewall. A guy I work with has a 89 diesel, and always heard this creaking noise when driving the truck. He went to put a later model frontend on it, and when he took the front clip off, that's when he discovered a long crack in the cowl area. His radiator support was also rusted out on the bottom around the radiator.

Another way you can check things is to get someone to pull up and down on the doors when they are opened wide, while you check around for movement.

The radiator support being rusted out is probably what cracked his cowl area, since the front of the cab was trying to support the whole frontend instead of the radiator support doing it's job. Coolant leaking does not rust it out, road salt is the main reason.

Especially with the manual trans check the cowl and firewall they were noted for cracking around the clutch master.

Are you sure that there definitely is a problem?

It's normal for the torque of the engine to cause the cab & chassis to twist when you punch the accelerator hard from an idle, & then to come back again......assuming this is parked in neutral.
The wheels & axle won't roll with the chassis because they are firm on the ground.

I have never seen such behavior on a truck and wouldn't consider it normal.

Assuming an automatic transmission here....

Have somebody sit inside, foot firmly on brake, tranny in Drive, hit the accelerator hard
while you investigate from underneath or from under the hood.

This should be easy to see (if you can see it from inside the cab, you can see it from
outside), throwing parts at it because you think they might be the cause is a waste of
time, money & labor.

Do you hear any clunking when it does? Unlike the gassers our diesels make all our tourque at around 1400to1600 rpm and with my trailer on i get some twist when pushing the smoke button, and in low range moving around the yard or pits loaded we really get some twist were my frame fells like rubber.
