AZ CCW Class

Just completed the required class for a Arizona CCW permit. The AZ permit is good in 33 states not 21 as I posted previously. The AZ class is now a one day, nine hours, with finger prints. The class was/is conducted by Guns Plus, Security Enforcement Services of Surprise, AZ. Classroom, gun safety, the laws and required shooting were done at Ben Avery Shooting facility. The shooting was done at 5 and 15 yards 5 round each at a silhouette target with a requirement of 80% in the zone, (no problem). The written test required 100% correct on 20 questions. Additional fun shooting was done using single strong hand and weak hand only and two handed rapid fire utilizing the front sight alignment only. Had a great time.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

Aside from the shooting, it sounds a lot like the Utah permit I got.

A Washington CCW only requires a finger print and back ground check. Several outfits have opened classes in WA for a $ fee to get what is called a "Utah permit" good in a bunch of states. If a state requires both shooting and class room on safety and the law there is greater reciprocity of a CCW. As for a WA permit there is very small list of reciprocity.

The Utah CCW license is offered here in Washington by many local gun shops, one being Cabela's where the only requirement is a 3-hour class...no shooting. I plan on going and getting mine when I can. I was talking to a co-worker last Friday who just got the license through Cabela's and he was saying the instructor of the class said there are some gray areas with this license. If you're traveling through a license covered state, you're fine, but if you're traveling through a noncovered state to get to another covered state, it's illegal to stop in the noncovered state. So the gray part of this comes into play when you ask: What is considered a ''Stop?'' Would that be stopping at a hotel along the way to catch some sleep or an RV park? Or maybe at a gas station to fill up? Or a store to grab a bite to eat? I'm sure we'll find out more about this as they get it worked out.

OJ, that's not quite true about the non covered states. Each state has its own law. Check out this site:

Handgunlaw.us : CCW Map

I have my permit too. In SC it is a CWP (concealed weapons permit)

What are you going to carry?

What I was referring to was from the state of Washington stance, our state law differs from your state law. I see you live in SC, so yes it will differ from here. However, the map does not explain the gray area that I mentioned.
