Turn the key on and run out and lay a screwdriver across the glow plug relay for about 45 seconds and go back in the truck and crank it. Its free and a good place to start. Do you get a wait to start light?

Well I got it cranked I guess 263k it might be time for some new injectors (could that be the reason for hard starting?) it started and ran real rough for about 5 min the came out of it and starts and runs fine now In the meen time while I was working on it I pulled my 01 service truck up there for some tools and a wind block and the exhaust was broke and hanging down on it WTF tied it up with some wire for now. Think I will crack open a cold one and start working on my go fast toys today is NOT the day for trucks LOL

Yes injectors can make it start hard and your getting up there in miles. Im thinking you have a few bad glow plugs because it runs fine warm. Could be a combo of worn injectors and bad plugs

I am wondering if the oil drained back from the HPOP. Whole you were cranking it it eventually refilled and was able to start. The rough running may have been due to air in the lines if this was the reason. If I had seen this earlier I would have suggested pulling the plug on the top of the resrvoir to see where the oil level was.

I thought of that too after I got it to start .What causes the oil to drain back? And is the plug I need to check the one on top?

WTS does not mean a whole lot, not connected to GPR. Was having a lot of problems with mine and started waiting 1.5 - 2 minutes after turning switch before trying to crank. Started every time. Mine would not start when below 50*. Don't have to wait has long now that it's getting warmer. WTS is good for summer but not worth a crap in cold weather. I change every thing but the glow plugs before finding this out. Can't hurt to try, worked for me.

If the engine ain't burning oil, then you don't need a rebuild or a replacement engine. With the miles you've got, you are due some maintenance. Injectors are likely due for replacement. May as well do the glow plugs while you're in there. The under valvecover harnesses may need replacing too. All of these can create starting problems and/or rough running issues. GP's should go with Ford. As for injectors, there are several aftermarket sources found on this site that are both good, and more affordable than Ford replacements.

How is it starting now? The HPOP has a small check ball in it if it hangs up or is a bit worn the oil can drain back on it.
