Yep, painted the spider the same. Bellowed up-pipes got the VHT Flame proof paint in Cast Iron. Hopefully it holds up after reading some of the other posts, some were having issues. ...
Good thinking. I didn't even think to paint the bellowed up pipes on my wife's truck. They looked a bit like stainless to me so I'm not sure paint will stick that well anyway. I suppose the collector portion can be painted though...
Oh well, I missed the boat on that one. Wish I would have thought of it back then.
These are my painted IC Pipes. I just used a wire wheel to get the gule off, wiped down with acetone, and then painted with 550 degree New Ford Blue paint. Haven't had any issues with pealing or flaking.
thought about painting them but dont have the money to paint right now but have some polish so figured id give it a shot if it was possible and if i liked it would just keep them that way
Polish them up and they will look good. I used bare metal polish.
As for the spider I used a wire brush on a drill, no polish.
I did this in Oct '08 and haven't redone them since.
This pic was taken on the 6th of this month.
They stay clean if the CCV Mod is done.
Hey Greg mines an '01 and it's got alum icc pipes. Honestly I've never seen steel icc pipes.
Interesting...
I still think that someone might have swapped an early engine into your truck. The serial number is down by the oil filter housing. Sure would explain a few things...
David, that does look like a good serial number and would fall in the late 01 model year range. I think you found yet another location besides just on the oil filter boss. Can you post a photo?
