Drag truck or Car?

Is anyone building or going to run a FE powered truck or car at the drags this year?

Building a 390 now for my dad to run in one of our fairlanes. Approximately 550hp, should run high 10's. Would be putting it in this weekend but found a bent roller lifter, just enough it won't go down the hole. Never knew that big shaft would bend, guess so. I had one come out hard out of the last motor they were in, thought maybe it was stuck in the block a little from sitting for 6 or 7 years. Sent them in to rebuild, comp never saw it either cause I'm sure that is the one and it won't go in. Next weekend.

Getting 550 hp n.a. with a 390 will be a challenge. Good luck on your project.

no challenge. Fully ported alum. heads and port matched big victor intake, good sized solid roller cam, it will be there.

Are you building something or just checkin out other builds?? Share if you are..

its a comp cam, .686 int .644exh lift, 266int 276exh @.050 duration

Edelbrock heads, flow 335cfm@6200. I've had the heads for 10? years, head man had them a few times tweekin on them.

I'll be a little oversized on carb as all I've got is another 1050 dominator, should be probably about 950, but it will work. 5400rpm stall convertor

I am working on the engine. 427 MR. Ported Edelbrock rpm heads, etc. No body for it as of yet. It will not be ready for this year, maybe next.

We will be running our 1960 Falcon this year. Last year it ran 10.26
I have a 100 to 250 hp nitrous setup, so this year I will use just enough to run 9's (once) then run the rest of the year between 10.0 and 10.3
I will post a video of one of the runs when we do it. Our vette has been taking up most of my time this winter. We had a supercharger installed and dynoed at 515 rwhp which equates to 606 flywheel hp. The Falcon is still my favorite, because it has a FE in it.
Years ago, I built FE's for local people, boats, race cars, etc. but now, I only build them for myself. Every time I go into the shop, I see the 427 and 428scj sitting there waiting to be built. I wish I had some kids or grand kids that I could build one for and let them race.

Here is the only pic of what was a 428 at the time, everything going to the 390. I'll take a good one when its done.

It's real dirty here as it had been sitting in the shop on a stand for 6-7 years. Best run this motor ran in my fairlane was 10.08, that was perfect weather conditions, shifting at 6300 rpm. Normally ran mid 10's as it was usually hot outside.

Nice looking engine. You did a very good job to get that close to the 9's.
It is good to see others doing well with the FE.
No matter if you run 9's or 16's , you can have fun with your car/truck at the races. The FE is strong and durable when built right.

Thanks maxtor, really like the looks of yours too. You're right, fun can be had no matter how fast you're going. I'm going to run my sisters car in the high 12's this year and just let mine rest most of the time (she's moving and getting remarried and only coming back to run a couple times). Cheaper to run and it will be fun going back into my old class for a while. I'll be in the same class with dad and his FE. One I'm driving has a mild windsor. Chances are I'll get against him sometime as they ladder all of our classes. Should be lots of fun.

Gonna run my 65' galaxie once before going up to Alaska just to get a base line on the 46 year old stock 390 4v before building a new motor for it next year. Which brings me to a question. What would you guys suggest: 390 bored and stroked to 445 from survival motorsports or a 460 bored and stroked to 577 cubes with scat bottom end?

If your goal is to go as quick as you can, the 577 is the way to go. If your goal is to have a fun sleeper car, the FE is the way to go.
Most people do not know a 352 from a 427.
