Hello.
I have a 2008 Ford F-350 Super Duty King Ranch with a 6.4. This is the first time I have ever owned a diesel or a large ford for that matter. My buddy gave me a "chip" to put in it and said it would give me more power and take the dead spot out of the pedal and give me better fuel mileage. My question is this: My truck is still under warranty and I've been told that installing a chip with void your warranty. I asked the Ford shop Foreman and he advised against it. What do you guys think? Thanks for the help.
Adding a tune will not automatically void your warranty. However, if any failure occurs and it is determined to be caused by any aftermarket product, the repair can be denied under warranty and come straight out of your pocket instead.
I agree with Pocket, and I think it's easier for Ford and/or the dealer to say that a failure occured because of your chip versus you being able to prove that it did not.
If they say no to a warranty claim because of the chip then you don't have much (realistic) recourse in my opinion.
I also agree with what you guys are saying, however right now it seems ford is denying a lot, for mods as simple as an intake. My truck is modded and I have a great relationship with my dealer, but there was a guy in there last time mine was is with a dusted turbo and the fse denied work because of the intake.
I have no particulars of it the customer ever had the claim paid, just overheard the conversation. If it were me I dont know if I could risk it on a new truck with a lot of warranty left. But its your truck and your money do what you please.
