well i got the second rear axle and got it in. took it for the famous first run and yea it worked. no moving perches, speedo works, and it has good brakes, this second guy knew what he was doing and if i need anyparts ill call him first cause he had 5 or 6 trucks sittin around and a barn stuffed full of parts from years of working on fords. so i found a good axle and a good resource of parts. i might even get a good nights rest tonite. whew glad it over. but i did get the bed side rails ant tail light panel painted.
i have the transfer case about half out just have to get the crossmember out to get to the top bolts. not too sure how to get the tranny out but i guess ill learn here in a little while, zf 5 speed. just not sure how clutch fork and shifter come apart.
Ouch... I know that feeling.. I had a RTS 3speed with OD in my old 87.. When the tranny tabs broke off it, I trashed it fore a M5... Then things got blurry and I ended up with my 96 lol... I still don't clearly know what happened..
But if the ZF5 has the same slave cylinder set up as the M5 all there should be is a hydraulic line going into the trans, then there is a clip that you pop off and the hose should come out.. If you get mad like I did... Cut it. The hose is like 20 or 30 bucks.. And it wasn't worth the trouble to me..
Good luck.. And there is one thing I have learned... "Do not assume you can do it on your own, that's how you get in trouble..)
Example: I dropped the NP435 and NP205 out of my 78 on my own, threw my back, still haven't been able to move right and its been almost 4 weeks...
yea my back has been bad for a few years now. i use alot of different types of ways to get around doing heavy work. used to be a day when i could bench press a c4 on to the dowel pins and get a bolt into it. i have since learned to adapt tools, jacks and hoists to do the heavy stuff
well while removing transfercase i found ALOT of rust on the frame. looks like someone drove it into a salt pile and parked it in the weeds for a long time.
Yea, I found out the use of wood, jacks and actually asking for help the hard way on my 87.. I'm not a big person, 5'8" and 165lbs soaking wet... I have to use all the above mentioned often...
And I fell ya on the salt, my truck is hideous on the underside.. One of the PO's lived in jacksonville or somewhere close to it and loved driving on the beach but obviously hated washing the salt water off...
