I haven't posted in quite a while. I haven't driven my 56 in several months but have decided to get it back on the road . I plan to remove the 472 Cadillac engine and install a '74 model 302 and C4 trans. The truck has a Volare ifs. It currently has a '68 Dodge car rear end, which will be replaced with a 9" Ford I have.I'm now gather up the parts I will need for the 302, which came out of a half-ton two wheel drive pickup. I believe that I need a rear sump oil pan with the Volare suspension. Which exhaust manifolds do I need? Any advice on the swap will be appreciated. Thanks
You can use the front sump pan with the Volare.
Not because I work here now but because I have used them on several trucks I've built in the past, have a look at BBK Performance's #1515 shorty header for the 86-93 Mustangs. Nice little compact unequal length header.
I fitted my 49 F-1 with a 302 last summer. Plan on offsetting the engine to the passenger side a little and even then you may need a shorty oil filter unless you relocate it. Your truck is two inches wider than mine so you will have a bit more room at the steering box. I used 65-66 Mustang exhaust manifolds. The front sump oil pan isn't a problem with the Volare...
I'm putting the 302 /c4 in mine also. Front sump has plenty of clearance, I did set mine about an inch to the passenger side to give more room by the steering box.

I have BBK 1515's on mine too. So far, everything has plenty of clearance.
