TITLE QUESTION

Anyone live here in NC and ever had to get a bonded title? if so should i go ahead and start working on the 51 and get it going and see if they give me a rebuilt title? or should i just fix the motor and the brakes then get them to inspect and then tear it down and completely redo it?

Here in MN, a bonded title lasts about 3 years, and is no problem if the seller is willing to sell on a B of S..... just hope that he bought it the same way, or that he just simply lost the title, or maybe the truck was purchased at an auction or deceased estate sale. I can only speak personally, as any truck I apply a title for, I don't expect it to be roadworthy within 3 years anyway, so I wouldn't be out of too much money if someone legally staked claim.

The horror story is only when someone buys a car without a title, puts a $5000 paint job on it only to have some shmuck come up and say, "Hey, that's my car!" It may or may not be, but how do you prove it? Meanwhile the car sits in court as evidence.

Ultimately, the bonded title is to prevent the sale of stolen cars so easily.

I had to go through this process last year, I got a bonded title online then had to take the truck to a DMV inspection station to have a inspection done, which only included a vin check really to acquire a affidavit of ownership

well i am not to worried about somone saying the truck is stole. here is my story.

claude thomas bought the truck way back. he paid the truck off and never titled it to himself. so the truck still shows a lien. strike one.

claude then passed away in the early 90s. so the truck went to his wife. well she never took the time to get the title either being as though they hadnt moved the truck since the late 60s. strike2.

evelyn his wife passed away in april 1994. well she didnt have a will so it all went to the oldest living relative. i forget his name but he didnt want the truck nor the 70 model that is sitting down there. so he went at the end of 1994 and legally signed over all rights to the truck and the 70 model to his brother george. strike 3

well of course being as though it had been sitting so long george never done anything with it. well i met my girlfriend a few years ago and her father had built a 53 f1. so i got the itch that i wanted something old to build. a friend of mine here at work said i have the perfect truck for you. he took me to the 51 i fell in love and didnt buy it for about a year. well george really didnt want the truck nor did his son scotty. but they never really had it for sale. because they wasnt going to sell it to someone who was going to try and make money off of it. if someone was going to do that they would have just left it in the barn. anyhow

scotty found me the paperwork where his grandfather had passed away. and where his grandmother had passed away. and where georges brother had signed it all over to george. all state sealed and legal. well my problem is the truck has never been titled to anybody and the company that has the lein has now went out of business and didnt sell out to anybody. so i really dont think that anyone is going to say the truck is stollen.

my question is i have to fill out the affadavid of facts on the truck. then the inspector has to come out. he told me i will have to get 2 written estimates on the truck. well thats hard to do since it isnt running. but i am not sure how i get a application for the title. because that is what the insurance company needs in order to secore the indemity bond.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

my story was like yours, I called the tax collection office and they ran the vin and said that it had never been titled, all I need was a bonded title, bill of sale, and affidavit of ownership. I went online to Mississippi Title Bonds 1-866-546-4605, they might do you out of state too, and gave them my info and $140 and then they sent me a bonded title in the mail. the affidavit of ownership wasn't legal until I had the vin inspection done. I then take all of this to the courthouse and submit for a tag and the lady tells me now that the truck was titled in 74 to some guy that me nor the po has any idea who he was. but since the affidavit of ownership as the po signed as the legal owner and the bonded title is kind of a type of insurance against the stuff I guess they took it and sent me a tag and title in about 3 weeks.
