hello from oregon, i installed 8 new glow plugs today and started it up, it runs really rough with no power and the gpr stayed on for one 60 sec. and never went out so i shut it down real fast. how long is that gpr stay on safly with out burning my glow plugs up? thanks for any help on this. gary
Depending on temps and other conditions, the glow plugs should stay on between 0 and 120 seconds. Your 1 minute run is well within spec and nothing to worry about. You didn't put in Autolite glow plugs did you?
thanks for the the come back F350-6, i put in plugs from the international dealer, the truck is smokin real bad, filled the shop in 60 sec. with smoke and no power, i will pull the valve covers off in a day or two when i get some more time and see if there might be some thing i did wrong there, anyone had this happen to them chim in and maybe clue me in on my screw up. thanks, gary
Did it fire right up after the new GP's?
Did the Wait To Start light stay on for 1 minute or the GPR. The WTS light should stay on ~10-20 seconds.
Every time I instal a new set of GP's it runs like crap and smoke like a chimney.... most likely due to the oil that dripped in the cylinders when the old GP's were removed. It clears up within a few stomps on the skinny pedal.
thanks every one, i disconected the glow plugs at the gpr and installed a test light there, the wait to start light in the cab goes out at 10 sec. the gpr starts to blink the test light after 1.4 minutes then blinks a litle while longer and goes off and stays off . man if the glow plugs stayed on on my 86 idi that long they would be fried. i ran the truck for five minutes or so with lots of white smoke real bad, idiles fine but go to give it throttle and no power, and they were autolites that i took out 5 of those tested good with .8 ohms i replacd all of those with the new ones from the dealer, new ones are #1820697c2 made in ireland. it starts real easy i will take the rocker covers off this weekend and see if i can figure out whats going on, maybe i knocked some thing loose tring to get the covers back on. no power, dont that mean no fuel in a hole or two? gary
yes it ran good i just needed to replae the glow plugs, i am back home from work and getting ready to open the valve covers back up and see if i can see anything wrong. i will post in a few hours what i find. thanks agin guys.
well i found the problem, it was human error to put it lightly, shop rag wound around the turbo fins, still runs good but i best be looking into a new blade set, dang the bad luck. glow plugs work good. thanks for all the reply, gary
