LINKAGE ADJUSTMENT
I HAVE A 88 F-150 4X4 5-SPEED, NOW WHEN I BOUGHT IT, IT HAD A LEAKING TRANSMISSION, BUT ONLY WHEN THE TRUCK WAS MOVING, SO I REALIZED WITH THE HELP OF SOME FORD ENTHUSEIST THAT IT WAS THE FREEZER PLUG LOOKING THINKS ON TOP/BACK OF THE TRANNY, SO I REMOVED THE STICK AND TORE UP THE CARPET, UNBOLTED THE INSPECTION PLATE, AND REMOVED THE TOP OF THE TRANNY TO TRY AND RTV THE PLUGS REAL GOOD TO STOP THE LEAK, NOW WHEN I WAS PUTTING THE TOP OF THE TRANNY WITH THE LINKAGE COMING OUT OF IT BACK IN TO IT'S SPOT I ACCIDENTLY MOVED THE LINKAGE A LITTLE, SO AFTER PUTING EVERYTHING BACK TOGETHER, THERE IS A VERY SMALL GRINDING SOUND IN 1ST AND 2ND GEAR. AND IT IS HARD TO GET INTO 1ST, NOW I PLAN TO GO BACK AND FIX IT, BUT I'VE HAD TO DRIVE THE TRUCK SEVERAL TIMES IN THE CONDITION IT IS IN, SO MY QUESTION IS...WHAT KIND OF DAMAGE AM I DOING TO THE TRUCK, IS THERE ANYWAY THAT I COULD LESSEN THE DAMAGE FOR NOW, UNTIL I CAN GET BACK IN THERE AND CORRECT THE ERROR? IS THERE ANY EASY METHODS OF ALIGNING THE LINKAGE WHEN I PUT IT ALL BACK AGAIN?
