my nephews rear axle is whining and grinding im pretty sure he destroyed the pinion bearing(or more) so uncle gets to fix it. theres a salvage yard here with a complete 8.8 for 300 bucks and for 50 more they will throw in the front 3rd member.
This suits into my plans perfect I think because I have been planning a gear swap in mine (92) for over a year now. What im going to do is swap my nephews rear end for the salvage unit and get his back on the road and rebuild his for my 92 bronco so my bronco wont be down and I can set up his old axle so all I have to do is swap mine plus I can do the third memeber so I can just swap the front out when the time comes.
Now that you all know my plan, I have one question. Will the stock 8.8 rear and D44 front take a 4.11 or 4.56 gear on the factory carrier? Because when i look at gear sets it will say for example "fits 4.11 and up" or "fits 4.11 lower"
or do I need to replace the carriers to accept the taller gears?? (which I probly will anyway with some nice lockers) Thanks
sorry man I'm a newb to this 4x4 stuff when you say front 3rd member do you mean the whole TTB? or just part of it.
I picked up a TTB the other day and the guy practically begged me to take the 8.8 too, though I see you are in Colorado and thats a long way from EAst Texas
I admit I lmao when I saw how I could rebuild my front end ball joints, brakes, bearings, u-joints and all on the bench and just R&R with the old one.
