Headliner refurbishing

I don't think my '84 f150 originally came with a headliner, but it looks pretty crappy because the previous owner drilled all kinds of holes through the inner wall of the roof. I got all the trim out of a '85 xlt including the headliner board/fabric. The board/foam looks to be in good shape, but the fabric is stained, faded, and torn.

As a sidenote, I repainted all the plastic, vinyl, and metal interior trim pieces with Color Bond paint from LMC. It looks really good and has held-up well. So far at least.

I can probably get fabric at a craft store, but what would you all suggest as an adhesive to stick the fabric to the old foam? Some kind of spray adhesive? What kind?

3M sells a really good spray adhesive that you can get at most parts stores, I've used it for vertical carpet before.

I used 3M spray glue to put my new headliner fabric back in my 82 F-250 and it worked well. Hasnt fallen off yet!

You can get the foam backed fabric at the fabric store, then scrape all the old foam off of the board. 3M pray is the best as far as I know.

The old foam is crumbling. New fabric will stick, but the foam will let go.
I need to do this soon, I feel like a Bedouin when I get into my truck.

There was a good write-up on this last year.
3M Spray77 or 88 will keep the fabric secure.

if its really bad take a butter knife scrape the foam off then replace with the foam backed headliner stuff they sell at pepboys and 3M Super 77 Spray Adheasive it on, if its hard to get off take either a wire weel (be very careful) or one of those wheels for a drill thats almost like a scotch brite pad thing

the foam and applying fabric is the easy part, espically in a truck haha

when pulling the fabric off its a pretty good chance the foam will follow so it might be worth your while to just put all new foam on

Go to "stockinteriors.com". I got the kit to redo my headliner for about $30. Came with the correct fabric and adhesive. I even received free samples of the material first so that I could chose the correct color.
Was easier that I thought it would be to apply. I did have help from my wife though (and we are still married). Took us about 30 minutes to apply the new material. I used a scrub brush to clean off the board prior to applying the new material. So far I am pleased with the results. The true test will be the hot and humid summer weather that is coming.
