I wase putting a tune in the pcm and the tuner freze. now i lost all communication with the PCM...truck crank but dont start and i only have ------ shoing on the mileage counter. pull it to ford to put a original programation in the pcm but they say that they can`t comunicate with pcm. i think they want monney what are the alternative
just brought back the truck from ford 200$ later, talk to delta force tech and he said he coud reprograme it manualy so i will give it a try, send the ship and pcm to get fix and will se...
I don't know if you did or not but the fuel pump and electric fan fuses should be removed prior to the flash so as not to interfere with the programing.
For perspective, an engine swap gets into an area where the owner is 'back yard engineering' and trying to reprogram the PCM to boot.
This get's into the 'no support' area unless an experienced programer/shop does it from experience.
Question is, is the PCM from the original 4.6 or the doner 5.4 and did the motor run ok before the reflash attempt?
It can become quite a hassle before it's all over with.
Good luck.
Check the wiring harness under the air filter. Mine was chaffing and causing a whole bunch of problems with my truck. Most people including here said it was the computer. WHen Ford has it, they found the harness was chaffing, causing a short. This caused a bad communication problem with the computer. Caused the truck to run like crap, if it even started. WOuld die on the road, no CEL and obd II port was no working either. Was only $285 compared to a few thousand.
ok guys, i am now having a truck that run againe the probleme wase a blanc pcm. Ford dealer wonted 1400$ to instal a new one but after talking to Alex at pdq performance in florida i decide to send him my pcm... it took him 20 min to put the progamation back in, he ship it back for free and remplace my tuner, that's what you call service . he only had to folow the ford TSB for programing a blanc PCM and evrything work againe. I guess before changing a pcm a phone call to florida might be worth it. I bin told that 90% of the pcm change are still good and can be reprogram unless they got water damage or electric short circuit . thank's for you guys post it's always good to have differante point of vue
A further word about replacement PCM from aftermarket sources.
The same PCM as a hardware unit is used in many vehichles over the Ford line of vehichles.
An aftermarket source has no way to tell what your application is and what program version you need to have loaded unless you give them information so thay can go to Ford's website and down load it.
Not everyone can do this because you would need the have the hardware to accept the program, down load to the new PCM as well as the authorization to do so.
