Having computer reprogrammed to eliminate emission

so ive done a ton of research on the removing emissions deal with these trucks. but i popped a head gasket in my 93 bronco with a 351 and i just decided im gonna pull the motor and rebuild it. but since its out i want to remove all the emission junk on the motor egr and air pump and all. The reason i want to do this is because i keep having little things here and there messing up and i want to really clean up the engine compartment and just make everything more simple. Ive seen the kits u can buy that can fool the computer but it seems like a 50/50 chance with trying to do that. so i was wondering if there is a company u can send your computer to have it reprogrammed or buy a computer already programmed. or just a simple chip and plug it in and then call it a day. i know the egr can make combustion temps lower for more timing and help gas mileage but if i loose a little gas mileage doing this in my opinion i would sacrifice mileage for simplicity. thanks for any help u guys can provide.

in all reality, you would be best off going to an aftermarket computer, such as accel.

These computers are not reporgrammable so a chip is your only option. That said you don't need to do anything to the computer to remove the air injection system, just leave the TAB and TAD solenoids electrically connected and no codes will be generated. The EGR system isn't that complicated or messy, there isn't any performance advantage to remove it, and the motor really doesn't look any better without the EGR valve attached so it isn't worth the hastle to remove it IMO.

The things the OP mentioned are just the tiniest tip of the iceberg when it comes to the issues that will arise from removing the emissions equipment. So, yeah, go right ahead and remove the EGR and Thermactor... screw with the O2 sensor readings and when it won't idle worth a damn and sucks down gas like a mid 70's dump truck, put it all back so you can afford to drive it and go back to replacing spark plugs once every few years instead of every few MONTHS. The integration of the emission equipment is so thorough in the EEC-IV system that removing it is more of a PITA than just leaving it there and making certain it works PROPERLY. What is being discussed makes no sense. The emissions equipment is passive and is not affecting your performance UNLESS its not working properly and then if you just FIX it it will become completely passive again and your performance will come back. Not knowing how it works isn't a good enough reason to just yank it out. KNOWING how it works will make you realize that its not doing ANY harm and in fact, is maintaining better performance for longer than any non-emissions engine. The money you will throw at it trying to make it work will far exceed what it will take to maintain the emissions equipment and the EEC-IV system as it stands.

Going to ignore this thread now.. I've said my piece. I see zero merit in the project and a deliberate lack of regard for the technological advancements that have done more good than harm.

With a '93 you'll open up a huge can of worms if you mess with the emission system.
You have to be very knowledgeable to make it work well without.

BTW, my '95 could get 18+ mpg on freeway when it had only 100k+ miles on it. Now with 260k+, it can still get 17+ on a good day.

Gotta add my 2cents.

I agree, my 92 (256k miles) runs better with all that "crap" installed, and working, than my 85 (185k miles) does without it.
